Job description

The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor working at the intersection of the arts and humanities with artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. The candidate should have research that develops new, expansive, and creative approaches to understanding, using, and interpreting ML, AI and emerging technologies within the mission of the college, and in candidates whose scholarship encourages valuable critical debate around AI and emerging technologies.

Sample areas of research and teaching may include, but are not limited to:

  • AI Ethics

  • AI in the Performing Arts
  • AI in Campaigns, Elections, and Policymaking
  • Digital Media and Emerging Communication Technologies
  • Computational Communication Studies
  • AI Regulation

  • Societal Impact of AI
  • AI Futures
  • AI-First Creative Works
  • Large Language Models and Generative AI
  • Multilingual and Multicultural AI
  • AI and Language Learning
  • AI and Algorithmic Bias

Candidates must have a terminal degree in an academic field housed in a department in the College of Liberal Arts, which include: Philosophy and Humanities; Art and Art History; Communication; Criminology and Criminal Justice; English; History and Geography; Linguistics and TESOL; Modern Languages; Music; Political Science; Sociology and Anthropology; Theatre Arts and Dance.

The successful candidate will contribute to the research and teaching goals of their home department as well as working in an interdisciplinary way—collaboratively researching, authoring, teaching and presenting across disciplines both within the College and across campus.
