Job description

The College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Environmental Studies.

We seek an innovative scholar or artist and gifted teacher whose work focuses on the environment, sustainability, and migration. Areas of specialization may include climate change migration, migration and environmental justice, rural-urban migration, the impacts of borders on environments and ecosystems, and migration and water scarcity or energy resources.   The position is open to applicants in the arts, humanities, or social sciences. The eventual hire will have a home department in the College of Liberal Arts and must have a strong background and an active program of scholarship or creative work in their disciplinary area. We are also especially seeking candidates who can demonstrate potential for interdisciplinary collaboration, program development, and community engagement, to build on existing strengths in environmental studies across the College and university. Successful candidates may collaborate with established centers in the university, such as the Center for Greater Southwestern Studies or the Center for Mexican American Studies. While we are particularly interested in scholars and artists who focus on topics relevant to the U.S. Southwest, a region deeply affected by environmental issues related to migration and borders, we also encourage applicants whose work connects regional concerns to global environmental issues and environmental sustainability for interdisciplinary practice.   Required Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree such as a PhD or MFA is required by the date of appointment, September 1, 2025.

  Preferred Qualifications:

  • A record of peer-reviewed publication or creative work.
  • Experience or interest in teaching courses on environmental topics that complement courses offered in the College of Liberal Arts.
  • Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement.
