The Department of Philosophy (Chair of Ancient Philosophy) at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main is seeking to fill a position of a

Research Associate in Ancient Philosophy (m/f/d)

(E 13 TV-G-U)

The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and is initially limited to a period of three years (extension option for two further years, no tenure option).

Your responsibilities:

- Self-directed research (achieving the equivalent to a German Habilitation) in the field of ancient philosophy

- Teaching (4 hours per week per term)

- Scientific services in research projects of the Chair of Ancient Philosophy

- Work group-specific organization and academic self-administration

Recruitment requirements:

- Completed academic degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Philosophy or Classics

- Outstanding dissertation (completed including defense) in the field of ancient philosophy

- The dissertation should have been submitted within the past two years and should have a focus on practical philosophy of Western antiquity from the 5th century BCE to the 2nd century CE

- Very good knowledge of Ancient Greek, Latin and English, as well as good German skills

- Publications in the field of ancient philosophy and teaching experience in philosophy are also desirable.
