Job description

The position is located in the research area "Practical Philosophy" (Prof. Benjamin Kiesewetter) in the Department of Philosophy, Bielefeld University.  

Your Tasks 

  • independent research in the field of Practical Philosophy
  • 4 LVS teaching in English or German in the field of Practical Philosophy in  all BA/MA degree programmes in Philosophy 
  • development of third-party funded projects and participation in their application as well as participation in the organisation of specialist events 
  • performing tasks in academic self-administration

Your Profile

We expect 

  • scientific university degree (e. g. Master's degree) and a PhD in Philosophy
  • documented research focus in the field "Practical Philosophy"
  • independent research projects in the field "Practical Philosophy"
  • excellent research achievements, which can be documented by internationally peer-reviewed publications
  • cooperative and team-oriented style of work
  • autonomous, self-reliant and committed manner of working and the willingness to take a formative role in the research group "Practical Philosophy"
  • strong organisational and coordination skills
  • good written and spoken English skills
  • teaching experience in Practical Philosophy, a professional understanding of teaching oriented towards further didactic training, as well as the ability and willingness to teach flexibly and broadly beyond one's own research focus on topics in Practical Philosophy (esp. applied ethics, normative ethics, meta-ethics, and the history of ethics) and to adjust the preparation of teaching content to the requirements profile of Bielefeld students
  • ability to offer courses flexibly in German and English (applicants without sufficient knowledge of German should be willing to acquire this within the first two years)

  Preferred experience and skills 

  • alignment of research interests with the research projects pursued in the research group "Practical Philosophy" (Prof. Kiesewetter & team) (e. g. reasons, rationality and normativity; moral rights and aggregation; ethical pluralism; climate change and democracy; children's rights)
  • experience in the organisation of scientific events
  • academic experience abroad
  • co-operative international networking in relevant research contexts
  • proven track record of interest in making the content of one's own research accessible to a broader public beyond the scope of one's own discipline
