Job description

LOYOLA MARYMOUNT UNIVERSITY, Los Angeles, California.  Assistant Professor, tenure-track, beginning Fall 2026. 2/2, 2/3 course load over two years.  Undergraduate and M.A.-level teaching.  AOS:  Social and Political Philosophy.  AOC:  Catholic political thought, broadly understood.  Ph.D. in Philosophy or related discipline required; exceptional ABD applicants who anticipate completion of the doctorate by Fall 2026 will be considered. Salary competitive.

The department has interests in the philosophy of economics, the history of philosophy, and Mexican philosophy.  The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the University’s newly-established program in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.

As a pluralistic department that values and respects a diverse range of philosophical approaches, we seek applicants who embrace this vision and who will contribute to the Catholic tradition of philosophical inquiry.  Our department is at the center of a Catholic university whose mission is inspired and guided by the traditions of the Jesuits and the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary.  We are seeking to hire a dedicated teacher-scholar who will contribute to the department’s goal of helping students of all backgrounds to become critical and reflective thinkers.

Candidates should submit application materials via the LMU Human Resources online application portal (http://jobs.lmu.edu).  Please note that the online portal can only accept five attached files at a maximum.  Please submit the following four items to the online application portal:  (1) a letter of application, which should address the candidate’s perspective on both philosophical pluralism and the Catholic intellectual tradition as they animate teaching, scholarship, and collegial life in a department; (2) a curriculum vitae; (3) evidence of teaching effectiveness, saved as a single PDF; (4) a writing sample not to exceed 25 pages.  Three confidential letters of recommendation should be sent directly to [email protected].  Questions about the position should be sent to Dr. Scott Roniger, Search Committee Chair:  [email protected].  Complete applications must be received by October 31, 2025.  Pre-arranged interviews by video call will be conducted by mid-December 2025.
