Job description

Lehman College, of The City University of New York, ranks among the top five institutions in the nation for fostering social mobility. A four-year Hispanic-Serving Institution in the Bronx, Lehman offers bachelor’s, master’s, and advanced degrees and certificate programs in the Liberal Arts, sciences, and professions. The College’s community-driven mission and notable academic programs attract a diverse, international enrollment of over 15,000 students who take courses on its 37-acre, tree-lined campus and online degree programs. Many thousands more community members benefit yearly from its active cultural, educational, health, and economic outreach programs and services.

The Department of Philosophy at Lehman College, City University of New York invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or tenure-track / tenured Associate Professor position, beginning in the fall of 2026. The department is seeking candidates with specializations in Philosophy of Technology and AI, or Business Ethics (broadly construed). This position will build on the department's ties to the Department of Computer Science and the School of Business by offering courses on ethical and other philosophical issues in computing and technology, data science, and business.

The AOC is open but the Department has teaching needs in philosophy of mind, epistemology, philosophy of education, philosophy of gender, environmental philosophy, and ancient and medieval philosophy. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach some lower-level service courses such as Critical Reasoning, Logic, Contemporary Moral Issues, Justice and Society, or Problems of Philosophy, and to be committed to exploring innovative pedagogical techniques to promote student success.

The teaching load is 18 credit hours (6 courses) per year which may be taught in person or online, depending on the Department's needs. The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain an active research agenda. For tenure-track faculty, the teaching commitment is reduced by six courses over the first five years in order to assist with research. Tenured faculty may also receive teaching releases to assist with research. All faculty are eligible to apply for competitive internal Lehman College and CUNY grants to support their research.

Service is required for tenure and/or promotion, and so the successful candidate will also be expected to engage in significant service activities at the departmental, college, university, professional and/or community levels, commensurate with rank. The appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor will begin fall 2026.
