Job description |
Founded in 1962, the Department of Religion and Philosophy under the Academy of Chinese, History, Religion and Philosophy of Hong Kong Baptist University has been at the forefront of promoting the teaching and research of religion, philosophy and ethics in Hong Kong for many years. Our innovative curriculum offers a comprehensive exploration of both Chinese and Western religions. In addition, we incorporate philosophical and social science studies to deepen our understanding of various religious and philosophical traditions, as well as major ethical schools of thought. Collectively, our professors demonstrate a threefold expertise in religious studies, philosophy and ethics. Such expertise is also reflected in their great diversities of research interests and the broad range of courses offered by our colleagues. We are now inviting candidates with excellent research potentials to apply for full-time PhD study for short review and admission by January 2026. Candidates should have an interest in AI ethics, but the specific direction and approach of the student is open. The PhD student will work closely with faculty engage in a niche research project on AI and vulnerable populations in Hong Kong. In this role, the student will be tasked with empirical research and literature review on how AI is affecting populations such as the elderly, the poor, primary school students and sex workers. As support for the student's assistance, a student scholarship of HKD18,930 per month will be provided for studies for two years, covering the student's tuition. Investigators in this grant-funded project will also apply for further funding with the hope of covering further studies. For applicants interested in pursuing PhD studies in the above project at our Department, please submit your application from now until 3 Nov 2025.
