The Department of Philosophy and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IAI) at the University of Georgia invite applications for a fulltime, renewable Lecturer position to begin in August 2026. AOS: Philosophy of Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence. This is a joint position between Philosophy (the home department) and IAI. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Philosophy or a closely related field at the time of appointment. Credentials should reflect a strong commitment to teaching and education. Ability to teach logic is a plus. Highly competitive salary. While there are no formal research expectations associated with this position, successful candidates should demonstrate competence in the philosophical issues arising at the interface of Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence, including the latest developments in generative AI. We are seeking a candidate with demonstrated teaching excellence prepared to teach a broad selection of undergraduate and graduate courses to students in both humanities and STEM fields. Examples include: Philosophy of Science, Logic, Cognitive Science, and courses on both classical and contemporary Artificial Intelligence. The successful candidate will take an active role in developing new courses in their AOS and related areas which would engage students across multiple disciplinary areas. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours (typically four courses) per semester. The Institute for Artificial Intelligence is a research and instructional unit managing the A.B. in Cognitive Science and two graduate Artificial Intelligence degree programs. The M.S. in AI is one of the oldest such programs in the country. The Ph.D. in AI was approved in 2022. The interdisciplinary nature of AI and Cognitive Science is reflected in the mission and composition of the Institute, with Institute Faculty Fellows coming from a wide variety of departments and colleges across campus. The Philosophy Department is pluralistic in outlook, representing analytic, continental, historical, and non-western approaches to philosophy, with special strengths in aesthetics, epistemology, ethics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of AI.
