The Philosophy Department of Northeastern Illinois University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank, beginning August 2026. We seek a specialist in normative and applied ethics with competences in non-western philosophy (broadly construed), philosophy of law, and/or philosophy of race. The Philosophy Department promotes excellence in both teaching and research and has a curriculum that reflects those priorities. We have a thriving major, with a diverse and engaged student body.

Successful candidates will also contribute to the Ethics Bowl Program, advise students, develop new courses, work with other departments to develop interdisciplinary curricula, participate in the vibrant intellectual life of our department, and carry out research in their field. Salary range is 65,000 - 68,000 for a nine-month contract. The candidate that is selected is required to work in-person, on campus at Northeastern Illinois University. This position may require teaching in person at multiple on-site Northeastern Illinois University campuses.

Please submit an electronic dossier including a letter of application, CV, teaching dossier/evidence of teaching effectiveness, writing sample, research plan, and three letters of reference, one of which must provide evidence of teaching excellence, by December 15th, 2025 to [email protected]. Copies of unofficial transcripts are accepted; however, official transcripts for all earned degrees will be required of candidates selected for final interviews.
