Job description

The Philosophy & Religion program in the School of Humanities at the University of Southern Mississippi invites qualified applicants for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track, Assistant Teaching Professor in Philosophy to begin Fall 2026. The program has a new inter-disciplinary BA in Philosophy, Religion, and Law that offers three pathways of concentration: Ethics, Philosophy of Law, and Religion and World Cultures. We are seeking a candidate who specializes in Philosophy of Law, with areas of competence in Ethics and teaching Critical Thinking (with a focus on LSAT preparation). The teaching load is 4/4.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teach undergraduate courses in Philosophy of Law, Ethics, Critical Thinking, and survey courses in both conventional and online formats
  2. Maintain active publishing and research agenda
  3. Advise and mentor undergraduate students
  4. Participate in program assessment
  5. Fulfill service obligations appropriate to teaching-track faculty
  6. Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Philosophy by the time of appointment

Preferred Qualifications
A record of publication and scholarship as well as teaching experience in both conventional and online formats. Knowledge of Canvas helpful.
