Job description

The Parr Center for Ethics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Educating for the Virtues of Attention initiative (EVA). EVA is a grant-funded project aimed at fostering attentional literacy across campus—the understanding, practice, and valuing of attention as a vital dimension of learning and of human flourishing. The Fellow will play a central academic and organizational role in advancing the project’s mission to cultivate attentional habits across campus life.

Key responsibilities include playing a lead role in coordinating, convening, and facilitating faculty development sessions on attentional pedagogy; supporting instructor training for first-year courses; collaborating with EVA leadership to develop and assess curricular and co-curricular programming; contributing to research on the cultivation of attentional virtues in higher education; teaching up to one course per semester, as appropriate to the fellow’s expertise and project needs; and participating actively in the intellectual community of the Parr Center and the Philosophy Department.

This is a full-time, 12-month position for two years, contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in philosophy, or in a closely related discipline bearing on the study and cultivation of attention or intellectual virtue, by the appointment start date.

Review of applications will begin on January 7, 2026.
