Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Duquesne University seeks applications for a full-time non-tenure-track Teaching Assistant Professorship, to begin in August 2026.

Appointment is for one year (nine-month contract), renewable with opportunities for advancement but not application for tenure. Position includes salary, benefits, office space, and conference travel funding. Expected teaching load is 4/4 with two preparations per semester.

Primary responsibilities will be teaching Introduction to Ethical Reasoning as well as courses in our suite of introductory-level philosophy classes: Reality & Illusion, Who I Am, Democracy & Justice, and Global Thought. These classes run in multiple sections every semester and serve students across the university through Duquesne’s Bridges Common Learning Experience general education curriculum.

All courses will be face-to-face (i.e., no online teaching).

Qualifications: PhD in Philosophy in hand by start date and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community. Ability and willingness to contribute actively to the Mission of the University and to respect the Spiritan Catholic identity of Duquesne University.
