As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University seeks qualified applicants to promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity through a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor of Philosophy. Area of specialization is ethics. The ability to teach courses in various areas of applied ethics is especially desirable, e.g., courses in the ethics of capitalism and markets, bioethics, and engineering ethics. The department is also interested in candidates to coach our Ethics Bowl team. Area of concentration is open, though the ability to teach courses in at least one of the following areas will be given special consideration: philosophy of law, philosophy of mind, philosophy of science, modern and contemporary philosophy, and political philosophy. Candidates should be able to teach the richness of the Catholic tradition while also attending to the broad and ecumenical needs of general education, supporting interdisciplinary initiatives, and working with the students and faculty of Bishop Simon Bruté College Seminary. The position will report to the Chair of the Department of Philosophy, operating on a 9-month, full-time appointment, with a course load of twelve credits per semester.
