Visiting Assistant Professor

The Colorado College Department of Philosophy seeks a one-year visitor at the rank of assistant professor with a specialization in Applied Ethics or Normative Ethics. Specifically, the Department is searching for a scholar able to teach courses on: 

•    Applied ethics
•    Normative ethics and 
•    Environmental ethics.

In addition to teaching courses in the above areas, the successful candidate will contribute to the Department’s historical and cultural perspectives major requirement, which encompasses both Western and non-Western philosophical traditions. The ability to offer a course on the philosophy of race, of disability, or of another social identity is a plus.

Candidates must have a strong interest in teaching highly engaged undergraduates. The teaching required is the equivalent of a 3/3 course load, taught on the College’s “block plan” schedule, under which students take and faculty teach one course at a time, lasting three and one-half weeks and typically meeting daily for 3 hours. Course enrollment is capped at 25 students. Preference will be given to candidates with Ph.D. in hand, though candidates expected to graduate by Spring 2026 are welcome to apply.

Colorado College is a private liberal arts college with a focus on excellent, engaged undergraduate teaching. The College enrolls about 2100 students and employs a faculty of approximately 200, of which about 170 hold tenure-line appointments.
