Assistant Teaching Professor/ Associate Teaching Professor/ Full Teaching Professor

 The College of Social Sciences and Humanities and its ten tenure units are the home of the Experiential Liberal Arts. Through its research, teaching, and engagement missions, the college collaborates across the university, the Northeastern network, and partners around the globe. Successful faculty in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities will be dynamic and innovative scholars with a record of research and teaching excellence. Strong candidates for this position will have the expertise, knowledge, and skills to build their research, pedagogy, and curriculum in ways that reflect and enhance this commitment.

The Department of Philosophy and Religion in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University seek to fill a non-tenure-track job opening for an Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Full Teaching Professor in the area of AI Ethics.

This is an academic year teaching faculty position with opportunities for promotion through an established track from Assistant Teaching Professor to Associate Teaching Professor to Full Teaching Professor. Reappointment letters are issued prior to July 1 of the applicable year.

This is a full time, benefits-eligible position with an expected start date of August 17, 2026. The position will be on Northeastern’s Boston campus.

Responsibilities:

Duties include a teaching load of six courses for the academic year (three courses in each semester), including Responsible AI, Technology and Human Values, AI Ethics, AI and Society, and related courses.

 Student advising, professional development, and service are also expected.

 
Qualifications: 

  • Ph.D. in Philosophy, Science and Technology Studies or a related field in hand by the employment start date is required.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong scholarly record on ethical issues related to the design and use of AI-based technologies, including but not limited to AI, big data analytics, and robotics; a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching; and preparation to work with global student populations.
  • Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate Teaching Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor or have a comparable level of experience. Candidates seeking appointment at the Full Teaching Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Full Teaching Professor or have a comparable level of experience.

The teaching statement should summarize your past instructional and mentorship experiences, your pedagogical philosophy, and what you would like to teach at Northeastern. Please highlight any pedagogical innovations, experiential learning activities, or strategies for teaching a global student population.

Pay Range:

Assistant Teaching Professor: $70,000.00 - $84,000.00 Associate Teaching Professor: $84,000.00 - $96,000.00 Teaching Professor: $94,000.00 - $107,000.00

With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
