Job description

Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Salzburg

Full Professor (§ 99 (1) UG 2002) in

“Philosophy of Physics”

Expected start date: as soon as possible

The future job holder is expected to have a strong research background in philosophy of physics and, if possible, also in general philosophy of science.

The focus of the department of philosophy at the University of Salzburg is on solving philosophical problems by referring to the empirical sciences. Our main areas of research are philosophy of science, logic, philosophy of language, ethics & political philosophy, and philosophy of education (including didactics). In all these areas modern philosophical methods (including logical and mathematical methods) are applied, and it is asked to what extent the research results are of relevance to science and society. Our department has been a part of the international philosophy community for many decades; philosophers from all over the world work on research projects, teach and study here. Because of this, the future job holder is expected to engage in interdisciplinary and applied research and is expected to be well connected to the international philosophical community.

A professorship at the University of Salzburg stands for future-orientated research, dedicated teaching, and social responsibility. It encompasses independent and cooperative scientific work, the acquisition of external funding, the leadership of teams, as well the publication of research results. Professors foster young researchers, value interdisciplinary research, shape third mission activities, and engage in university committees as well as internationalisation. With a sense of responsibility, integrity, and innovative strength, they shape a respectful working environment and drive scientific, technological and social development forward.
