| Job description |
The Department of Philosophy seeks to hire a full-time [100% FTE] lecturer who will teach two courses (including one preparation) in one quarter of COLLEGE, and in addition, will teach courses in ethics and our introductory curriculum. The COLLEGE program is a first-year requirement for students as a part of introductory general education at Stanford University. You can read about its offerings here: https://college.stanford.edu/courses. The successful candidate may also be asked to teach upper division courses in their area of specialization and to assist with developing and mounting our capstone requirement. The normal load of a lecturer is the equivalent of 6 courses, one of which may be covered by “course equivalent” departmental duties. This appointment would be for three years with a possibility of renewal. Successful candidates will have a PhD in hand no later than July 1. The position will begin on August 1, 2026 and the successful hire will be expected to attend the COLLEGE training program in August. Applicants should submit materials through Interfolio. The cover letter should address your qualifications including: demonstrated excellence in teaching, especially first year students; relevant research and teaching related to classes in the COLLEGE curriculum, including any evidence of intellectual flexibility to teach in an interdisciplinary general education curriculum; an indication of what other classes you would be prepared to teach. In addition, please include in your application a CV, research and teaching statements, and a sample of written work; please also arrange to send three letters of recommendation, at least one of which speaks to your teaching. The expected base pay range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000 for the academic year 2026-27. Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position upon hire. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, and internal equity. Please note that relocation and housing support are not available for this position, and only applicants who have permission to work in the U.S. are eligible. The application process will close on April 12, 2026. |
