Job description

The Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for multiple positions including Visiting Assistant Professor, Lecturer, and Part-time instructor. 

Duties & Responsibilities

Courses needed include Beginning Philosophy, Introduction to Ethics, World Religions and Philosophy, Biomedical Ethics, and Political Philosophy. Both face-to-face and asynchronous online sections needed. Courses in the spring are flexible.

Teaching duties include delivering course content as well as monitoring and mentoring teaching assistants, holding office hours to meet with students outside of class time, writing and grading examinations, and assigning grades. 


QUALIFICATIONS
Required:

  • Record of teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level.
  • PhD in Philosophy required for Visiting Assistant Professor position and for graduate student supervision. 


SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
These are full-time, 9-month appointments, non-tenure track positions. Renewal of the position is contingent on the availability of funding, positive performance reviews and sufficient course enrollments.

Start date is August 16, 2026. Starting salary depends on duties and on prior qualifications and experience. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship for work authorization. Visiting Assistant Professors and Lecturers will teach at least some classes face-to-face and must be on campus. Part-time employment teaching courses online is also possible with no such residency requirement.

  • A teaching portfolio that includes evidence of teaching excellence. This might include for example, a statement of teaching philosophy, actual or sample course syllabi, a record of peer observations, student evaluation data and comments.
  • At least three letters of recommendation.

Full consideration will be given to complete applications received by the closing date April 10th. Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date. Review of applications will continue until all positions are filled.
