Job description

The Department of Philosophy invites applications for a visiting teaching position for the 2027 academic year. The successful candidate will contribute to the Department's undergraduate and graduate teaching programs, offering courses in their area of specialization and participating in the intellectual life of the Department. Applicants should hold a PhD in Philosophy by the start of the appointment.

Duties and Responsibilities 

Teaching Responsibilities: 

  • Teach three 2-credit courses each academic term at either the undergraduate or graduate level.
  • Among them, teach the mandatory undergraduate course Philosophical Problems in Politics and Economics.
  • The topics of the remaining elective courses are flexible, although courses with a focus on social philosophy are preferred.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Participate actively in the Department’s academic and administrative activities, particularly examinations and admissions procedures.
  • Supervise BA and MA theses.
  • Contribute to the intellectual life of the Department through collaboration with colleagues and participation in departmental events and initiatives.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a PhD in Philosophy by the start of the appointment.

What CEU Offers

The appointment includes: 

An 18-month fixed-term contract (from January 1, 2027, to June 30, 2028) at 40 hours per week, with a yearly gross salary of EUR 70,000 (paid in 14 installments, as is customary in Austria), as well as additional benefits, including meal vouchers and professional development opportunities.
