Job description

Compensation: $1000 per month, may be adjusted commensurate with experience.

Job Purpose- This position offers the opportunity to take on a one-on-one philosophy student motivated purely by the desire to deepen and refine his philosophical thinking and writing. The student would like both a broad basis in the history of philosophy and a focused understanding of ethical and legal philosophy. The student's objective is to be able to produce philosophical scholarship at or exceeding the level of an excellent undergraduate senior thesis.

Total duration of position: at least one year.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Base level duties and responsibilities of this position are not hugely different from those of the average college-level instructor. They consist of:

-Curriculum planning: It is understood that there will be trade offs between breadth and depth; the goal is to approximate the breadth and depth of a high-quality undergraduate philosophy program. The instructor will be expected to conceptualize a roadmap for getting the student to such a level.

-Lesson preparation: Instructor should have precise and insightful recall of works and concepts related each class's topic.

-Course instruction: Instructional time is to be approximately five hours per month, divided as determined between instructor and student. Pay will reflect five instructional hours per month at $200/hour. Adjustments possible commensurate with experience.

Experience
A philosopher with a completed PhD who has enjoyed their experience teaching classes is perfectly acceptable, though more experienced professors are naturally welcome to apply
