Job description

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Visiting Instructor beginning in the 2026–27 academic year. The person filling this position will teach four sections of Engineering Ethics on campus in the fall and spring semesters, with the possibility of teaching an additional online section as an overload in the fall, spring, and/or summer semesters. The position also includes service and outreach activities, including active participation in continuing efforts to improve the department’s educational mission. The successful candidate will have strong competence in teaching engineering ethics courses and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • A master’s degree in philosophy or a closely related field from an accredited institution
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching a diverse student body
  • A commitment to service at the department, university, and community levels

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Philosophy, Ethics, or closely related field from an accredited institution
  • Prior experience teaching engineering ethics, professional ethics, applied ethics, or technology ethics.
  • Experience teaching multiple sections of the same course and coordinating shared learning outcomes or assessments.
  • Interest in teaching dual-enrollment students, including students participating in programs such as Commonwealth Collegiate Academy.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

This is a full-time, benefited non-unit position. Anticipated salary range for this position is $67,000 - $72,000 annualized.
