Job description

The Austin College Department of Philosophy invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Philosophy. We welcome applications from both early-career scholars and experienced faculty. Appointment at the Associate Professor level does not convey tenure; candidates hired at that rank will be considered for tenure through the College’s regular tenure review process. Candidates must have PhD in hand before the position begins in August 2027.

The area of specialization is social and political philosophy and/or ethics, including areas of applied ethics of broad interest to undergraduate students such as environmental philosophy public health, media, business, and medicine, with particular interest in candidates working on the ethical and social dimensions of AI and emerging technology. The successful candidate will participate in college-wide programs such as first-year seminars and January Terms, and may have opportunities to contribute to college-wide initiatives related to AI, technology, and human-centered learning. The teaching load is three courses in the fall, three courses in the spring, and one course during a three-week January Term every other year.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts environment. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
