Background The National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for the post of Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. With a history that goes back to 1929, the Faculty comprises fifteen Departments and a Centre for Language Studies. The Departments span the arts, humanities and social sciences, and form three divisions: Asian Studies, Humanities, and Social Sciences. The Faculty has strong interdisciplinary collaborations across the university. It has established the College for Humanities and Sciences with the Faculty of Science that offers a common interdisciplinary curriculum based on the expertise of both Faculties. With the Faculty of Computing, it has also established the Centre for Computational Social Science and Humanities to advance interdisciplinary research across the fields of both Faculties. The Faculty was ranked 19th and 16th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 for Arts and Humanities and for Social Sciences, respectively, and 17th and 8th in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2026, with the latter ranking placing nine of its disciplines in the world’s top 10. The Dean must be able to inspire trust, exercise integrity and sound judgment, and unite the Faculty around a shared vision. The Dean should also possess an exemplary scholarly record and international reputation in any of the Faculty’s disciplines suitable for appointment as a tenured Full Professor in the Faculty.
