Postdoctoral Assoc: Artificial Intelligence in Humanities & Social Sciences

The College of Arts & Sciences at Cornell University invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship (appointment title: Postdoctoral Associate) focused on artificial intelligence in the humanities and social sciences. Our aim is to appoint up to 5 new fellows in the first year. Desirable areas of research include the social and cultural impacts of AI, computational methods and theories for humanistic and social scientific inquiry, and the ethical, political, or historic dimensions of artificial intelligence but we will consider outstanding applicants working at the intersection of AI and any humanities or social science discipline. Fellows will have the option to teach one undergraduate course each year.

The first year of appointment will run 1 August 2027–31 July 2028; the second year will run 1 August 2028–31 July 2029.

Fellows are expected to be in residence for the term of the appointment and to take an active role in the intellectual life of their home department, the College of Arts & Sciences, and Cornell University, including relevant AI-focused initiatives across the university.

Fellows will be provided with workspace and an annual salary of $70,000, full benefits, and a research account of $4,000 per year. Additional research funds will be available by application.

Eligibility: Eligibility is limited to external candidates whose PhD will be conferred by August 1, 2027. Candidates with Cornell PhDs conferred between 2022-2025 are also eligible. Applicants must be sponsored by a tenure-stream faculty member in the College of Arts & Sciences. International scholars are welcome to apply, contingent upon visa eligibility.
