Associate Lecturer (Teaching, Fixed Term)

About the role

The post is offered on a one-year fixed term contract, full-time basis, with a start date of January 2027. Main purpose of the job: The successful candidate will be expected primarily to provide teaching, supervision, and administrative duties associated with the following modules: ‘Philosophy of Space and Time’, ‘Formal Epistemology’, and ‘Science and Pseudoscience’. Duties will also include supervision of dissertations. The appointee will also supervise BA and MA dissertations and act as a personal tutor for some students. The appointee may also be required to carry out other specific tasks and duties, commensurate with the spirit of the role, as requested by the Head of Department. About you

Candidates must hold a PhD in Philosophy or be soon to be awarded one. Applicants must demonstrate expertise in the areas to be taught, with an aptitude for teaching and be committed to fostering a positive learning environment for students.

About us

The Department of Philosophy at UCL is one of the leading philosophy departments in the UK. In the 2021 REF, 60% of our overall profile received the top grade (4*), the highest of any UK philosophy department. We offer several undergraduate degree programmes. Undergraduate first-year modules usually involve two hours of lectures per week; second-year modules usually involve a one-hour lecture plus a one-hour seminar per week; third year modules usually involve two hours of seminars per week.
