Assistant Professor of Philosophy

The Division of the Humanities and Social Sciences at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank in philosophy. Area of Specialization: value theory or philosophy of science. Exceptionally well-qualified applicants at higher levels may also be considered.

Caltech is a world-renowned institute of science and engineering, committed to innovative research and teaching that prepares students to address fundamental social and technological challenges. We seek highly qualified candidates who are committed to a career in research and teaching. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary humanities group and will be expected to teach four seminar-style undergraduate courses annually, distributed across three quarters. The initial appointment as an assistant professor is contingent upon completion of a PhD in a relevant field. The initial appointment for tenure-track positions is normally four years. Reappointment beyond the initial term is contingent upon successful review conducted prior to the commencement of the fourth year.

Salaries for professorial faculty at Caltech fall in the range of $125,000 to $400,000.
