Assistant Professor

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Rochester invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. We welcome candidates with outstanding research potential who can work productively with colleagues and doctoral students in and beyond their area of specialty. We are looking for a researcher who works on normative questions about artificial intelligence, broadly construed. We will look closely at any research program examining ethical, social, political, or any other normative dimensions and consequences of any major aspect of artificial intelligence (including but not limited to safety, alignment, fairness, privacy, and economic impact).  Excellence in teaching at diverse levels of instruction is essential, and consideration will be given to candidates’ potential for collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines. The University of Rochester is a selective private R1 institution.  Course load: 2-2, plus doctoral supervision and normal department service.
