Assistant or Associate Professor of Global Commerce

The Global Commerce program at Denison University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level beginning in Fall 2027. Global Commerce takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of business. The program trains students to think broadly and critically about how global exchanges of goods, services, information, and money shape and are shaped by a wide variety of economic, political, cultural, social, and environmental factors. Students in the program put this training into practice through consulting projects, entrepreneurial pitches, and a variety of co-curricular experiences. The current faculty includes scholars in history, economics, anthropology, organizational behavior, English, and philosophy. 

We are hiring a tenure-track faculty member from the humanities or humanistic social sciences whose research focuses on questions related to business, trade, or economic life. The hire will teach across our core curriculum, which includes an introductory course on the relationship between commerce and society, an introductory course on how businesses function in the modern economy, an intermediate course centering on a local business consulting project, and an advanced global entrepreneurship capstone in which students develop a business plan. The teaching load is 5 courses per year, the largest of which is capped at 25 students. A PhD is required by the time of appointment. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in liberal arts teaching at the undergraduate level, a desire to contribute to the development of the Global Commerce major, and a willingness to work with our colleagues in the Knowlton Center for Career Exploration. Applicants must also demonstrate interest in integrating global perspectives into their teaching and working in an interdisciplinary program. We will consider the extent to which each candidate’s research perspective complements those currently represented in the Department. Applicants must also provide evidence of an active research agenda; continued scholarship is required of all tenure-track and tenured members of the Denison faculty. Additional work experience in the business, government, or non-profit sectors is strongly valued as a complement to academic expertise.
