Full-time tenure-track position in Philosophy at the rank of Assistant Professor

Subfield: Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence

The Department of Philosophy at McGill University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence, with a strong preference for candidates working in metaphysics, philosophy of mind, philosophy of language or epistemology.  The Department of Philosophy, in the Faculty of Arts, is a pluralist, research-intensive unit that includes strengths in ethics, political philosophy, logic, and feminist philosophy. The Department emphasizes rigor in argument, clarity in expression, and intellectual generosity, preparing their community of students and researchers not only for academic success but also for vital interdisciplinary work across the humanities, sciences, and professional fields. 

The appointment is expected to be at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position start date is August 1, 2027.

Job Duties:
The successful candidate will be actively involved in the academic activities of the department, including research, teaching, supervision of students, and service on academic and administrative committees. McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
Candidates should have completed their PhD or be near completion. An applicant’s record of performance must provide evidence of outstanding research potential and the ability/potential to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as evidence (or intentions) of undergraduate and graduate supervision and of mentoring students with diverse lived experiences.
