Lecturer (continuing but not tenure-track)

The Barnard College Department of Philosophy invites applications for a full-time lecturer position to begin July 1, 2027. Barnard is a premier liberal arts undergraduate college for women in New York City affiliated with Columbia University. The Barnard College and Columbia University Philosophy Departments function as a single department for most academic matters.

Job Description:

The teaching load is 3+3 courses per year. Non-teaching duties include advising undergraduate students and participating in service at the departmental and college levels. The successful candidate will be able to teach introductory and advanced courses, as well as develop new classes that draw on the candidate’s specific areas of specialization and competence. While these areas are open, the successful candidate must be able to teach Introduction to Logic.

Lecturers are reviewed in their third year of full-time service, with the possibility for reappointment and consideration for promotion to Senior Lecturer in the seventh year; subsequent reviews typically occur on a seven-year cycle.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Philosophy by time of appointment, or no later that Fall 2027.

Salary: $88,000 - $94,000
