Job description

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Maryland is a vibrant and research-active community with strengths across many areas of philosophy, including ethics, philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, political philosophy, metaphysics, logic, philosophy of artificial intelligence, and decision theory. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs in Philosophy, and also hosts the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics major (PPE), as well as the university’s new BA in Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HCAI).

The successful candidate will: have and maintain an outstanding, innovative research program that interfaces with the cognitive sciences; be expected to teach and mentor students at both undergraduate and graduate levels (two courses per semester); contribute courses to the new HCAI BA; and fulfill the usual range of administrative responsibilities. An ability to contribute courses to the BA in PPE might also be an advantage.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD or equivalent in Philosophy or related field by the time of appointment. At least two years of research in philosophy of mind and prior teaching experience at the university level.
