Job description

The Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a tenure-eligible position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor specializing in ethics. This is a nine-month appointment in the regular title series with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2027. The anticipated Distribution of Effort will be 45% teaching, 45% research, and 10% departmental service.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a well-developed research program with strong potential for continued scholarly productivity and evidence of effective teaching. The position carries a teaching load of two courses per semester, including courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will also contribute to graduate advising and participate in departmental and university service.

The Department is particularly interested in candidates whose research or teaching complements a primary specialization in ethics with interests in applied ethics and/or the ethics of artificial intelligence. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of a course in AI ethics.The University of Kentucky Department of Philosophy is a pluralistic department that welcomes diverse approaches to philosophical research and teaching. A PhD in Philosophy or a related field is required at time of appointment.
