The Department of Philosophy at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured position (open rank) in Philosophy of Science with a focus on AI and values, interpreted broadly. The annual teaching load for this position is 2/2. In addition to maintaining an active research program, the successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the University's major programs in Philosophy, History and Philosophy of Science, and Humanities and Technology. This will include offering both core and elective Philosophy courses. Case Western Reserve University is a leading independent research university that attracts a national and international student body to a range of programs across the liberal arts and sciences, enrolling over 12,000 undergraduate and graduate/professional students. Located in Cleveland's University Circle, a square-mile urban district of cultural, medical, educational, religious, and social service institutions, CWRU was recently ranked among the top 25 universities in the country by TIME magazine and named a "New Ivy" by Forbes, and is known for faculty with outstanding scholarly reputations and a strong commitment to teaching. The College of Arts and Sciences is deeply committed to the humanities, offering a new undergraduate degree program in Humanity and Technology and planning the new Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Humanities Building—a campus anchor for human-centered digital scholarship, interdisciplinary creativity and community partnerships. The annual starting base salary range for this position is from $90,000 –$200,000, commensurate with rank and experience. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
