Lecturer in Philosophy The School of Philosophy and Art History The School of Philosophy and Art History at the University of Essex is pleased to invite applications for up to two posts with the rank of Lecturer (with eligibility for permanency). Essex Philosophy is part of the School of Philosophy and Art History, a community of academics who share a common project of researching and teaching art and ideas. We are internationally recognized for our unique combination of Anglo-American and European Philosophy – particularly in Aesthetics, Critical Theory, Phenomenology, and German Idealism. The post holders will have the ability to contribute research and PhD Supervision in at least one of the following areas: Ethics (and Philosophy) of Technology, Feminism, post-1950 French philosophy, Medical Humanities, Nietzsche, and Philosophy of Social Science (broadly conceived). You will be required to contribute teaching in at least two of the following: Ancient Philosophy, Ethics of Technology and/or Warfare, Feminism, post-1950 French philosophy, Logic and Critical Reasoning, Medical Humanities, Non-Western Philosophy and/or Religion, Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Language, Philosophy of Science, and Philosophy of Social Science. Successful candidates will have a PhD in Philosophy or related discipline, or the expectation of a PhD qualification prior to the start date of the appointment. Additionally, you will have demonstrated skills and enthusiasm for teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels, experience of teaching in a Higher Education environment, and a willingness to take part in extra-curricular activities within the School (e.g. School seminars and research colloquiums).
