Assistant Professor (EXPIRED)

Applications are invited for appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy in the School of Humanities, from July 1, 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal. Appointees with demonstrated performance will be considered for tenure towards the end of the second three-year contract.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Philosophy by the date of appointment. Preferred area of specialization: Ancient Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, Philosophy of Social Science, or Meta-Philosophy. Area of Competence: Open. Preference may be given to candidates who also work in Chinese or Comparative Chinese-Western philosophy. Total teaching load will be three to four courses per year, including introductory first-year courses. He/She is expected to develop a vigorous, independent research programme, to excel in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and to handle the usual non-teaching duties. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and medical/dental benefits.
