Job description

The College proposes to appoint a Fixed Term Fellow in Philosophy. The position, which is strictly temporary will be tenable for two years from 1 October 2012 to 30 September 2014, renewable for a third and final year until 30 September 2015. The Fellow will be required to undertake tutorial or class teaching of undergraduates up to a maximum of six (weighted) hours per week averaged over the three terms of the academic year, to set and mark college examinations, and to participate in the admissions process. The College has a preference for applications from those able to teach one or more elements of the ‘Introduction to Philosophy’ course taken by first-year philosophers (Logic; General Philosophy and Moral Philosophy) and for one or more of the following advanced Philosophy: (103) Ethics; (115/131) Plato’s Republic (in translation and/or Greek); (116/132) Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics (in translation and/or Greek). The postholder should also have the ability to teach other advanced papers on the undergraduate syllabus, and the college is particularly interested in candidates whose teaching complements its existing teaching capability.

The Fellow will be appointed on Grade 7 points 1 – 8, (currently £29,099 - £35,788 pa), commensurate with experience and inclusive of College Housing Allowance.
