Department: Political Science, Philosophy and Geography Position: Assistant Professor- Comparative Philosophy- Tenure Track Position Description: We are seeking a candidate who is experienced in and dedicated to teaching the philosophies of the world and comparing the world views, epistemology and ethics of the different philosophical traditions. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development and teaching of philosophy courses from a western/non-western comparative perspective and be versed in one of the AOS areas listed. In addition to teaching and scholarship, we expect service to the department and the university. Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Philosophy or Comparative Philosophy by Fall2017. Areas of specialty (AOS): Comparative, i.e. western/non-western. A successful candidate must be versed in one of the following areas of philosophy: Ancient Greece, Ancient India or Ancient China - proficiency in the language of that philosophy, as well as expertise in a comparative (western/non-western) area of study. Experts in Ancient China or Ancient India need to be versed in some western philosophical tradition, e.g. continental or post-modem. Experts in Greek philosophy need to be versed in some non-western area of study. Areas of Competency (AOC): Ability and strong commitment to teaching comparative philosophy at the undergraduate level in a liberal arts educational environment (emphasis on Critical thinking and Ethics) and a promising scholarly agenda. |
