Assistant Professor (EXPIRED)

The Philosophy Department at Missouri State University is accepting applications for the position of a full-time, tenure track, Assistant Professor of Philosophy.

While the research specialty for the position is open, the department has teaching needs in Ancient Greek and Roman Philosophy, Applied Ethics, Asian Philosophy, Feminist Philosophy, and Logic.  Introductory level courses are part of every faculty member’s rotation, every semester.

We are seeking a philosopher with demonstrated teaching experience in some number of the indicated areas, as well as in introductory level philosophy courses.  We also require demonstrated excellence in teaching, as indicated by faculty reviews and student evaluations, and candidates should be able to demonstrate experience working in diverse environments, with students from diverse backgrounds.

Once hired, the new faculty member will also be expected to maintain a regular publishing schedule, in his or her area of research specialization.

Eligible candidates will either have a Ph.D. in philosophy or be ABD in a philosophy graduate program.  The dissertation must be successfully defended and the degree granted, before the beginning of the Fall Semester, 2017.

The standard course load at Missouri State is 4/4, but is reduced to 3/3, with regular publication in peer-reviewed, professional journals.  The new hire will also be expected to engage in the usual administrative and committee work, at the departmental, college, and university levels.
