Job description

The Department of Philosophy at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan is accepting applications for two one-year visiting faculty positions for 2017-18. Such appointments may be renewed for up to three years, depending on satisfactory performance and continued teaching needs of the department. Four (4) courses per semester, undergraduate. Summer teaching possible. Benefits include medical insurance, life insurance, and tuition reduction for spouse and dependents. Contract begins August 6, 2017.

Qualifications:   ABD or Ph.D. in Philosophy, with solid grounding in history of philosophy and commitment to excellent teaching in the tradition of liberal education. AOS: Open.  Candidates must be able to teach across the introductory philosophy curriculum including Logic, Introduction to Philosophy, and Ethics.  We also have additional teaching needs in aesthetics, feminist philosophy, and practical and/or professional ethics.  Ideal candidates would be able to teach in at least one of these additional areas.  Candidates should also show evidence of teaching excellence.
