About Us  

The Centre for Digital Philosophy's mission is to advance research and education in philosophy through technology. The Centre is part of the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. CDP operates PhilPapers, PhilJobs, and PhilEvents.       

Responsibilities  

The Content Coordinator will have primary responsibility for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of PhilPapers, which is a comprehensive index and bibliography of philosophy, maintained by a community of philosophers.  The incumbent will continue to expand the research content contained within PhilPapers, in order to facilitate new research in Philosophy through the use of online tools.  The incumbent will liaise with publishers, faculty members, departmental staff and other relevant stakeholders, both internal and external to Western, to identify new content and facilitate its addition to PhilPapers.  The Coordinator will also provide a first point of contact for all inquiries and issues related to the various online applications and services offered by the Centre for Digital Philosophy, to ensure that the faculty members, students and other stakeholders who use these services have any technical issues resolved in a timely fashion, either directly, or by escalating the issue based on the severity and/or complexity. The successful incumbent will be expected to work from CDP's offices at Western in London, Ontario. 

Qualifications  

Education:
-   Undergraduate degree; preferably in Philosophy
-   Graduate degree is preferred

Experience:
-   1 year of experience providing customer service, managing a complex database or providing technical support related to online services 
-   Experience working in collaboration with Software Developers in the delivery of online services is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Familiarity with techniques for identifying, updating, managing and extracting data from a complex database
-   Familiarity with philosophy research papers
-   Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
-   Communication skills to describe technical concepts effectively to both novice and sophisticated users, and to write clearly, and adapt communication style for intended audiences in a professional manner
-   Ability to provide solutions and ideas for improvement by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required
-   Ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service to directly and indirectly satisfy expectations
-   Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work
-   Strong proofreading skills with an excellent command of the English language
-   Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
-   Time-management skills, with an ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
-   Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, with an ability to use and learn new software programs (online support ticket management systems); familiarity with basic programming languages (HTML) an asset 
-   Possess a reputation for resourcefulness with a strong sense of accountability and initiative
-   Interpersonal skills to build relationships and liaise with faculty members, publishers and other key resource people effectively 
-   Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
-   Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
-   Familiarity with University policies and procedures preferred

Duration

Initially this is a 1-year fixed-term appointment. However, the incumbent is expected to be renewed as funding and performance allow and may be considered for a permanent appointment in the future (if funds, performance, and the Centre's planning allow).
