UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON, DAYTON, OH. The Department of Philosophy invites applications for an assistant professor position, tenure track, beginning August 16, 2018.

Description

We are seeking an assistant professor specializing in environmental philosophy.  The typical teaching load is six undergraduate courses per academic year (three per semester).  The person holding this position will be expected to teach courses including Introduction to Philosophy, Environmental Ethics, and interdisciplinary courses in Sustainability, Energy, and the Environment.  Some summer teaching may be available. The Philosophy Department currently has sixteen tenure-line faculty and four lecturers and offers strong major and minor programs. The University of Dayton, with a College of Arts and Sciences and professional schools of Business Administration, Education and Health Sciences, Engineering, and Law has a full-time undergraduate enrollment of approximately 8,000 undergraduate students. All undergraduate students take twelve hours of philosophy and religious studies.

Required qualifications

We require a PhD in Philosophy at the time of application, with an AOS in environmental philosophy (AOC is open).  We require teaching experience at the college or university level as the instructor of record, and the potential for scholarly excellence in environmental philosophy.  We require excellent written communication skills.

Preferred qualifications

We prefer candidates with the demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary context, including collaborating with other relevant departments (including STEM departments), programs, and community groups.  We prefer candidates with the demonstrated ability to connect environmental philosophy with diversity and social justice concerns. We also prefer candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching philosophy courses, demonstrated success in teaching environmental philosophy, effective interpersonal communication skills, effective presentation skills, and a willingness to engage with the university’s Catholic and Marianist mission.
