Job description
  1. The Department of Philosophy at the University of Central Florida seeks to hire an assistant professor of philosophy with specialization in the history of philosophy and any one or more of the following: African American Philosophy, Latin American Philosophy, Native American Philosophy, or philosophy of race broadly construed. Area(s) of competency in one or more of the following: philosophy of law, philosophy of science and/or specialized sciences, formal logic, and/or social/political philosophy. The teaching load is 5 (3/2) classes per academic year prior to tenure. Research expectations are consistent with productivity in the discipline in a major metropolitan research university. The position includes usual service activity. This is a 9-month tenure-earning position with the possibility of optional summer teaching. The position is expected to begin August 8, 2018.

  2. Minimum Degree Requirement: The successful candidate must have university-level teaching and research appropriate to time before, during or since degree conferral or at least one year (or its equivalent) of full time university level teaching and research experience, and have been awarded a Ph.D. in philosophy or a closely related area from an accredited institution by May 31, 2018.

    Preferences: 1) Evidence of success in or considerable promise in research productivity in publications and/or externally funded activity is highly desirable; 2) ability to contribute to department efforts to recruit and retain students, and 3) demonstrated experience in teaching or ability to teach from among the following: introductory level courses in philosophy; upper-level course(s) in the AOS and AOC; upper level courses in the history of philosophy that contribute to the major; online courses; interdisciplinary courses.

  3. The salary for this position is negotiable.
