Job description |
The Washington College Department of Philosophy and Religion seeks a colleague at the rank of Assistant Professor, with Philosophy Ph.D. in hand, AOS Ancient Chinese philosophies, and AOC History of Western Philosophy, Ancient or Modern. Washington College emphasizes excellence in teaching and we seek a colleague committed to engaging students from a range of backgrounds and conveying philosophy’s continued bearing on the contemporary world. The standard 3/3 load will include Intro to Philosophy each semester and creation of new courses in one’s AOS. The Department’s four professors share responsibility for Logic, Ancient, and Modern. We offer a religion minor: the ability to teach religion courses will be viewed favorably. The Philosophy Department also contributes one course per year to the “First Year Seminar.” Finally, all faculty are expected to direct senior thesis projects. Please submit cover letter describing one’s research interests and teaching experience, as well as the CV, references, writing sample, and a teaching portfolio. The portfolio should include a teaching statement that speaks to engaging students of various backgrounds, how you contemporize your area of specialization, and evidence of excellence in teaching (may take the form of teaching awards, student evaluations, teaching-related publications, etc.). For full consideration, materials must be sent on or before December 5, 2017 to Dr. Jennifer Benson, Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Philosophy and Religion, using our online portal, Consensus. See “Application Process” at http://hr.washcoll.edu/. We will conduct first-round Skype interviews in the second week of January. On campus interviews of finalists will take place in February. |
