The Role:

The successful applicant’s main role will be in-class instruction to a highly diverse population of domestic and international students most of whom are in their first and second year of post-secondary education.

Most instruction will involve core university transfer courses in lower-level philosophy with some opportunity to teach upper-level specialized courses in philosophy and general humanities.

AOC: Critical Thinking, Applied Ethics, and Introduction to Philosophy.

AOS: Continental Philosophy.

 The successful applicant will also have a role in organizing and participating in the Summer Institute for Continental Philosophy.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill regular departmental responsibilities, (committee work, etc.) and to participate in the Summer Institute for Continental Philosophy.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need:

The successful applicant will need a completed Ph.D. in the required AOS as well as a good grounding in general philosophy. They should also be an enthusiastic instructor, able to communicate philosophical ideas to students beginning their post-secondary educations.

Work Arrangements:

The Philosophy Department in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is inviting applications for a probationary regular position starting in the Fall 2018 semester.

The successful applicant will be involved in classroom instruction up to 16 hours per week. Courses typically follow (1×3hr)/week or (2×2hr)/week format. 

The candidate must be able to teach days and/or evenings, at either or both of our New Westminster and Coquitlam campuses.

Workload is assigned each year based on available sections.
