Job description |
The Department of Philosophy at the Faculty of Cultural and Social Science at the University of Salzburg seeks applications for a twelve months postdoc. The post is made available through the FWF funded project ‘The Liar and its Revenge in Context’ (P2971-G24), running from January 2017 to December 2020. The project members are Dr Julien Murzi (PI) and Dr Lorenzo Rossi (post-doc). The main focus of the project is semantic paradox and theories of truth (for information on the project, see https://truthparadoxandcontext.com/). The relevant AOSs are philosophy of logic, philosophical logic, philosophy of mathematics, and philosophy of language. The annual salary is 50772,40 Euro, as detailed in the “Kollektivvertrag für die ArbeitnehmerInnen der Universitäten”. The starting date is 1 October 2018 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The main tasks of the appointee will be research on the themes of the project (or closely related areas), teaching or co-teaching one course (in English or German), and the organisation of a workshop (together with the other project members), to be held in June 2019. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply for a major research grant with Dr Julien Murzi (such as a FWF stand alone project). The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in philosophy, logic, or related areas, and a strong research record commensurate with career stage. Knowledge of German is not required. We especially encourage female scholars and members of other underrepresented groups to apply. The Department of Philosophy in Salzburg is known for its analytic and formal approach to philosophy. The appointee will join a vibrant philosophy community of permanent members of staff as well as many postdocs, Ph.D. students and visiting scholars. Each year there is a colloquium with international speakers as well as various other activities such as workshops, conferences, reading groups, and summer schools. Applications should be sent to Annelise Müller (anneliese DOT mueller AT sbg DOT ac DOT at) and should include a cover letter addressing the academic background and research interests, a writing sample (of max 10.000 words), a CV (including a list of publications), and a research statement (of max. 2 pages). Reference letters may be required at a later stage. The closing date for applications is March 15, 2018. Interviews will be held at the beginning of May. Contact for informal inquiries: Dr Julien Murzi (julien.murziATsbgDOTacDOTat). |
