The Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor / Jackson Center Ethics Fellow. The position will be housed in the department of Philosophy and Religious Studies. It is renewable up to three years. Appointment is effective August 16, 2024. The Center seeks a scholar with an active research and teaching agenda (AOS) in ethics or political philosophy in the early stages of their career. AOC: desired further areas of research and/or teaching competence include the philosophy of race and gender, feminist philosophy, social justice, human rights, Africana/African-American studies, indigenous studies, environmental ethics, or other area of applied ethics. The candidate's research should be of interest to the wider campus community and The Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values (http://www.coastal.edu/jacksoncenter). Candidates must exhibit strong potential for excellence in teaching, maintain currency in the academic discipline, and have a PhD in hand at the time of the appointment.
Responsibilities include teaching six courses a year (including at least one upper division ethics course), contributing to the intellectual life of the community, and participating in the work of the Jackson Center. The Ethics Fellow is expected to be a mentor to the Jackson Scholar students, who are part of the leadership program of the Center.

Duties : Contribute to research, service, teaching and teaching-related activities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The appointees are also expected to be active researchers and contribute to the broader intellectual project of the Department in terms of publications, academic events and research grants.
Requirements : A PhD in Political Philosophy/Ethics or related disciplines with competence in undertaking philosophical and ethical research and teaching. Candidates are expected to have an active research agenda that leads to external funding, provide evidence of teaching ability (including student evaluations) and proven ability to produce high quality publications. We are particularly interested in candidates who are familiar with East Asian philosophical traditions and are capable of conducting research and teaching in a field of applied ethics, such as biomedical ethics, digital ethics and AI ethics, environmental ethics, government ethics, and administrative ethics. Successful candidates are expected to commence duty as soon as possible.
• Candidates for Chair Professor and Professor should have outstanding research/grant records and international reputation. • Candidates for Associate Professor should have a number of high-impact publications and grants, and a demonstrated ability/potential to develop a research area on their own. • Candidates for Assistant Professor should have demonstrated potential for high-impact publication and grant capture.
Salary and Conditions of Service Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
